Brutus Bassist Peter Mulders on The MetalSucks Podcast

Our guest this week is Brutus bassist Peter Mulders. We discuss the band’s first live album, Live In Ghent (out October 23), how the recording wasn’t initially meant for fans to hear, the organic process of how songs evolve after playing them live, the energy of getting to record a show in his hometown, and the painstaking process of obtaining visas for the North American tour in March that was eventually cancelled and the financial repercussions of the pandemic. Peter also tells us the band’s thoughts on making a new album right now.

"For her part, Emma Ruth Rundle — the solo artist also known for her work with Red Sparowes, Marriages and Thou — is just starting to build her record collection, having mostly lived out of a suitcase until the last three years. One of the foundational pieces of her incipient collection is the Jessika Kenney & Eyvind Kang LP The Face of the Earth. Get an up-close look."

Mark Lanegan & Earth’s Dylan Carlson cover Galaxie 500’s “Summertime” // Brookyln Vegan

Artists have been covering songs by Galaxie 500 all month in lead-up to the Record Store Day release of G500's live album, Copenhagen, on August 29. Today we get Mark Lanegan who teams with Earth's Dylan Carlson for a slightly grungy take on "Summertime," which was on Galaxie 500's final album, This is Our Music. Says Mark, "Dylan Carlson and I giving the garage treatment to one of my favorite songs by Galaxie 500, one of the all-time great bands." You can watch that, and compare with the original "Summertime," below.

Other artists who'd covered Galaxie 500 in the series include Thurston Moore, The Feelies' Glenn Mercer, Barbra Manning, The Natvral (Kip from Pains of Being Pure at Heart), and Circuit des Yeux's Haley Fohr, and there are still covers to come from Magnetic Fields, Real Estate and more.

Earlier this year, Mark Lanegan and Cold Cave covered Joy Division's "Isolation" in tribute to Ian Curtis, and Mark released new solo album Straight Songs of Sorrow in May.

Brutus 'Distance' TOUTPARTOUT live session

Earlier this summer Brutus recorded ‘Distance’ as part of a TOUTPARTOUT live session on top of the ancient Fort Napoleon in Ostend, Belgium. Because of COVID-19 restrictions tickets were limited (100), people had to stay seated in their private bubble with 1,5 meters distance ... as you can see, that was a special show. All profit of the show will go to the LIVE2020 fund. This fund supports Belgian artists and crew in these hard times.

Brutus is also releasing their live record "Live In Ghent" due out Oct 23rd. Pre-order / Download / Stream: HERE
